Meaningful Content: 4 Reasons to Blog Like Your Business Depends On It!

When your business provides educational content, users begin to respect your authority. And that respect very well may become a sale or lasting partnership.

Finding that there is too much noise on the internet? I can definitely relate. And your clients probably think so too, which is why all content and copy posted on your website must be thoughtful and posted with purpose.

Writing helpful articles (or blogging) is a great way to educate users while effectively increasing your business site’s search engine optimization (SEO).

When you create a blog post, you consciously (and unconsciously) include keywords and phrases that people search for in your content. This helps your website rank higher in search engine results when users type in a request with those keywords and phrases. You don’t even need to keyword stuff—simply write content and use the language your audience uses.

In addition to including keywords in your blog posts, there are several other ways that blogging can improve your website’s SEO.

1. Educate Your Readers

First and foremost, your blog should deliver value to your audience. Users can quickly discern if the content is worth their time from a brief skim. Content fluff for the sake of keywords and word length will deteriorate your credibility among readers. (I think we can all relate to the nightmare of Pinterest recipes.)

When your business provides educational content, users respect your authority. And that respect very well may become a donation, membership, sale, or lasting partnership.

In addition to long-form articles, consider

  • To-do lists and checklists,
  • Case studies,
  • Tutorials & how-tos,
  • Glossary of terms for industry-specific language.

Everyone is looking for answers and walkthroughs. Educate by holding nothing back!

2. Google Loves New, Fresh Content

Google values fresh, high-quality content because it helps to improve the user experience. Users searching for something on Google want to find the most relevant and up-to-date information possible.

As a result, Google’s algorithms are designed to prioritize websites that regularly publish new, informative content.

Remember to speak in the voice of your audience and ask yourself what your ideal prospective clients really want to know and what jargon or language they would use when searching.

Creating fresh content doesn’t mean reinventing the wheel either. If you’re scratching your head on what to post next, revisit an older post and tweak it for any industry updates. Refresh the date from “back in the day” to now.

Publishing fresh (or refreshed) content on your website improves its visibility in search results, as it gives Google’s spiders something new to crawl and index.

3. Share On Social Media

If your blog posts are shared on social media, it can absolutely help drive more traffic to your website and improve its visibility in search results.

The critical thing to remember here is that your content must have substance and not be overloaded with keywords so that the text reads like a robot.

Post articles that are at least 500-750 words long. Include bullet points. Avoid distracting or irrelevant stock photography.

Don’t forget to add eye-catching cover art to lure in Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest users. Canva does have a free membership…

4. Increase The Number Of Internal Links

When you publish a blog post, you can link to other pages on your website. This helps search engines understand your site’s structure and hierarchy and can also improve the visibility of those other pages.

This is called “cornerstone content” and helps mark the most important pages on your website to drive traffic.

For example, suppose you are posting an article about “Estate Planning for Young Couples” and linking it back to the primary “Estate Planning” service page. In that case, Google will begin to understand that Estate Planning is among your primary services.

If you mention other services or previous blog entries, make sure to create links to them as well.

Final Thoughts

Blogging can be a valuable way for any business or non-profit to attract and retain customers, generate leads, and build brand awareness. But remember, consistency really is the key to building a faithful reader.
